486/2026-2027
Khawzawl, dated 26th October, 2026 : Dr. Jane Rinsangi Ralte, Project Director of the Mizoram State AIDS Control Society (MSACS), visited Khawzawl today and met Deputy Commissioner Pu K. Vanlalthiana at the DC Office. Khawzawl Chief Medical Officer Dr. Shahnaz M. Zothanzami, Khawzawl District Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Albert Lalhminghlua and other officials were also present.
Dr. Jane Rinsangi Ralte expressed her happiness over Khawzawl District achieving Surakshit status under Mission AIDS Suraksha. She commended the dedication of the Deputy Commissioner and urged the district to continue its efforts in combating HIV to ensure the health and well-being of the people, while working vigorously towards achieving Surakshit+ status at the earliest.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Pu K. Vanlalthiana expressed his appreciation for the dedicated efforts of the Chief Medical Officer and Medical Superintendent in helping the district achieve Surakshit status. He also stated that the district would continue to make every possible effort to identify people living with HIV and prevent further transmission of the virus.
The target of the Mission AIDS Suraksha (MAS) is the 95-95-95 target, which means that 95% of all people living with HIV should know their HIV status (first 95); 95% of those who know their HIV status should be receiving Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) (second 95); and 95% of those receiving ART should achieve viral suppression (third 95).
Khawzawl District has achieved all three targets—the first 95, second 95 and third 95—and has attained Surakshit status. The next goal, Surakshit+ status, aims to achieve zero mother-to-child transmission of HIV, ensuring that HIV-positive mothers do not transmit the virus to their children.
During today's meeting, government officials discussed the challenges faced in combating HIV and deliberated on further measures to strengthen ongoing efforts.
