The launching Programme of Cleanliness Competition for rural villages -  Swachh Survekshan 2019 and observation of Swachh Prerak Day 2019 was held at Vengsang YMA Hall at Champhai yesterday. Er HB Chakma SE  PHED  and Executive Vice Chairman, Swachh Bharat Mission-Grameen graced the program as Chief Guest and launched Swachh Survekshan 2019 for Champhai District.

Speaking at the launching Programme Er HB Chakma reiterated the efforts put in by Central Government in trying to upift the cleanliness and health conditions of the villages and country as a whole. He higligthed the  activities coming under   Swachh Survekshan, Er HB Chakma said that the Swachh Survekshan was launched by Central government in the year 2016 whereas our state commenced the Program in the year 2018, since then drastic development had been witnessed and the  State got second rank under NE States category  last year, he mentioned. He also requested all the villages to start  preparation and give feedback on the activities   and to excel in the coming Swachh Survekshan 2019.  The Chief guest urged the people to continue cleanliness drive and carry  forward the mission to have sustainable cleanliness and  imbibe the value of cleanliness and purity at one's own heart.

Er J.Kapkima EE, PHED who is also the Member Secretary of SBM-G praised the progressive  work of cleanliness campaign undertaken by the pioneers  at Champhai District since the  inception of SBM-G on October  2014, he further said that due to their  sincere dedication and prompt  action  the district   bagged first ODF District tagging in the State on  December 2016. Stressing the importance of observing Swachh Prerak Day 2019, he said that on this auspicious occasion prizes are being bestowed to deserving workers and volunteer to encourage and motivate them  so as to spread the message of cleanliness widely. He spoke at length about the Ministry of Jal Shakti and Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, all the Sanitary schemes are being implemented through  the Ministry and it determines to rank District and State based on specific criteria, he added. He informed the people to better acquainted and utilise the Swachh Survekshan Mobile App to give appropriate feedback and added that ODF-Plus and ODF- Sustainability are being carried on as per guidelines.

Er J.Kapkima said that without sowing the seeds of intention to live a life of purity at heart, one can't achieve effective and durable Cleanliness. To attain cleanliness and healthy life to the villages, Toilet at Household, School, Anganwadi, Community Sanitary Complex, Dumping ground for Solid Waste Management were constructed and the dilapidated one  recommended from WATSAN Committee and Swachhtagrahi should be submitted to the Department for consideration, he explained. He once again  reminded  them that Swachh Survekshan is not only for Village level but also for whole District and State, he earnestly invited the sincere cooperation and community involvement in the upcoming Swachh Survekshan 2019.

Today at Swachh Prerak Day  prizes were distributed to 10 Sanitary Volunteers-Swachhagrahi.  The Clean  Village award was given to NE Khawdungsei, followed by Sialhawk and Tualte Village. And also prizes were given to ten Village WATSON Committee; Ngopa, Leithum, Bungzung, Vangchhia, Chiahpui, Dungtlang, Dilkawn, Changzawl, Saichal and  Selam village. During 2019-2020,  it is reported that  530 new toilets were  constructed,  1102 household toilets , 48 School toilets and 3  Anganwadi toilets got repaired. Meanwhile 7  CSC and 47 Dumping grounds came up and  Wall Painting and ODF Declaration Boards were erected at every villages.

The program was chaired by Mrs Julie C.Mawii, District Consultant, SBM-G and the elaboration of  Swachh Survrkshan 2019 Citizen Feedback App was done by Mr H.Lalremruata, IEC Consultant, SBM-G. The program was attended by Swachhtagrahi, WATSAN Committee member, VC Member and Media persons.
