Lawngtlai, 4 August 2026: The Lawngtlai District Level Telecom Committee held a meeting today in the Office Chamber of the Deputy Commissioner under the chairmanship of Shri Donny Lalruatsanga, Deputy Commissioner, Lawngtlai District.

Welcoming the members, Shri Donny Lalruatsanga stressed the importance of continuing efforts to improve telecom services across the district. He stated that mobile and internet connectivity have become essential for the public and are equally indispensable for the Government, as a large number of services are now delivered online. He remarked that it is extremely difficult to function effectively without reliable mobile and internet networks. He therefore urged the Committee to make every possible effort to ensure better telecom services in the district. He also highlighted that dependable telecom connectivity is crucial for education, emergency services, and various developmental activities.

Shri G. Vijaya Bhaskar, Member Secretary and BSNL Sub-Divisional Engineer, presented an overview of the status of telecom service providers in the district, outlining the existing challenges and future plans. He informed the meeting that BSNL is actively working to provide mobile network coverage in areas that currently lack connectivity. He also stated that efforts are underway to roll out 5G services across the district.

The Committee emphasized the need for close coordination among all mobile and internet service providers to improve network coverage and service quality. Members expressed concern over the excessive number of overhead cables and recommended that these be properly organized and maintained. It was also resolved that telecom service providers should obtain prior approval from the Committee before laying new lines. To facilitate better identification and management of telecom cables, the Committee further recommended the implementation of a standardized colour-coding system.The Committee further resolved that all Internet Service Providers (ISPs) operating in Lawngtlai District should be invited to participate in the next meeting.

The meeting was attended by members of the Lawngtlai District Level Telecom Committee. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Chairman, Shri  Donny Lalruatsanga.
