Lawngtlai District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Women & Child Development, Social Welfare Department organised a children carnival today at Central YLA playground, Lawngtlai in observance of Universal Children's Day 2019.

Lawngtlai Deputy Commissioner Pi Shashanka Ala, IAS as a chief guest inaugurated the carnival expressing her happiness for the organisation of such a carnival for children. She urged the citizens to celebrate happy childhood and ensure safety and happiness of children in the society.

Lawngtlai Superintendent of Police Pu Amit Goel, IPS who was the guest of honour said children are the future of the country and it is the responsibility of every citizen to ensure a good environment for their upbringing. He also challenged the adults to fight child abuse and safeguard the children from all kinds of social evil.

The inaugural function was attended by children and their guides, officials from various departments and leaders of NGOs.
District Child Protection Officer Pi Mary Lalremruati delivered a welcome speech. Don Bosco School Children's Choir presented an opening song and students of Downtown English School performed beautiful dances. Protection Officer (Institutional Care) Pi PC Malsawmtluangi proposed a vote of thanks and the carnival started.

In this carnival, several games which children could play and competitions where prizes could be claimed were arranged, like bouncy castle, nailart, karaoke and several photobooths. The carnival proved to be successful. Many parents took their children to this carnival, some schools granted leave to their students to attend this carnival while some schools sent their students along with escort teachers to attend.

Prizes for the carnival was donated by several departments in cash and in kind.
