273/2026-2027

Lawngtlai, 5 August 2026: The Lawngtlai District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) held its meeting today in the Office Chamber of the Deputy Commissioner, under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the Committee, Shri Donny Lalruatsanga.

Welcoming the members, the Chairman stated that the meeting was convened in compliance with the directions of the Supreme Court. He stressed the importance of taking effective measures to reduce road accidents, identifying hazardous road stretches, and ensuring that the District Road Safety Committee meets at least four times a year. He urged all committee members to work with dedication and implement the Supreme Court's directions in letter and spirit.

The meeting discussed several important issues relating to road safety. While noting that the number of road accidents in Lawngtlai District remains comparatively low, the Committee resolved to take proactive measures to reduce accidents by at least 10 percent annually. It was decided that all accident-prone locations should be identified, with Block Development Officers (BDOs) taking necessary action within their respective jurisdictions. Road-owning and maintenance agencies were directed to install appropriate road signages and road safety barriers wherever required.

The Committee also resolved that the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) prepared for National Highways should be submitted to the Government at the earliest. The Public Works Department (Roads) was assigned to inspect National Highway-02 and National Highway-502A for any encroachments and take necessary action wherever required. It was further resolved that due caution should be exercised while issuing Trade Licences along National Highways. The Road Safety Task Force and the Road Protection Squad were also urged to strengthen enforcement and carry out their responsibilities more effectively.

The meeting was attended by members of the District Road Safety Committee in large numbers. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Chairman.
