The Lunglei District Disaster Management Authority, headed by Chairman Lunglei DC Pu V. Lalsangliana, IAS held an emergency meeting yesterday at the DC Office chamber to review preparedness of various line Departments and to assess the vulnerability of specific sites in and around Lunglei Town. The meeting was attended by PWD, PHE, H&FW, UD&PA and Police personnel.

After the meeting, the DDMA members proceeded to Zotlang for site inspection of an ongoing earth excavation work near Jedaz Petrol pump. As per reports received by the DDMA, the earth is being excavated to make way for a proposed filling station. After careful consideration, the DDMA decided to take immediate measures to halt the ongoing activity, as it is located in a landslide prone area and might pose a risk for the public. It was also decided to immediately request the Department of Geology and Mineral Resources to detail a geologist for a more in-depth study and analysis of the area.
