Mamit 15th October, 2020 : A meeting was held yesterday between the DCs of Mamit District, Mizoram and Karimganj District, Assam at BNRGSK Hall in Kanhmun to diffuse the tension regarding contested land in and around the borders of the States near Thinghlun Village of Mizoram.

Mamit DC Dr. Lalrozama IAS who chaired the meeting welcomed all the official delegates from Assam led by Karimganj DC Anbamuthan MP, IAS. He also mentioned the unfortunate incident that happened on the 9th of October, 2020 which necessitated this meeting in which the farm hut of Pu John Zolawma and betel nut plantation of Pu Ben David were burnt and destroyed. He urged the Karimganj District administration to identify the responsible persons for these untoward actions and take appropriate legal action against them as per law. He also pointed out that the land contested by Assam is the land cultivated hassle-free by the residents of Mizoram since a long time back and he prayed that status quo be maintained in the same manner now.

On his part, Karimganj DC Mr. Anbamuthan MP mentioned that historically even though the land was cultivated by the people of the Mizoram, he maintained that the contested land fell within the Singla Forest Reserve which was under his jurisdiction.

Although concrete settlement could not be achieved in yesterday's meeting, the following resolutions were arrived at by both the parties :-

1. That both the DCs refer the boundary issue to their respective governments to resolve the inter-state boundary.

2. That both administrations should station police personnel as required to maintain law and order in the vicinity of the disputed land.

3. That both the District administrations take necessary steps to maintain peace and tranquility through support and cooperation from both the sides.

Mamit DC Dr.Lalrozama also felicitated the Assam officials with presentation of Mizo traditional bags known as 'Khiangkawi Ipte' and also accepted the token presented by Karimganj DC to Mizoram Officials in return.

The meeting was attended by DIG Northern Range, SP Mamit OSD Home, DFO Kawrthah, SO LR&S Mamit DIPRO Mamit from the Mizoram side and DIG Southern Range, SP Karimgang, CCF, ADC, DFO, Karimganj from the Assam side.
