A meeting of District Aids Prevention and Control Committee was held today at Kolasib DC Conference Hall under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Pu Zoengsanga.

At the outset the Chairman said that the high prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Mizoram is very concerning and sincere efforts must be put in for creating awareness at various levels about the causes (injecting drug users and unsafe sex) and ill-effects of HIV/AIDS where each effort put in must be targeted in preventing and controlling the spread of the disease.

Reports in the meeting showed that between June 2002 and September 2019, 65,286 blood samples were tested out of which 1299 were confirmed positive. Out of the 65,286 blood samples tested 37,338 were of General Clients (1177 positive) and 27,948 were of pregnant women (122 positive).

Members present at the meeting proposed ways and means of coordinating with various Government Departments and also proposed that the Committee may request leaders of various Church Denominations to take steps in creating awareness about the causes and ill-effects of the disease.
