Lunglei District Task Force on Elimination of Malaria Chairman Pu Kulothungan A today convened a meeting at his office chamber to assess the present malaria situation in Lunglei District, and measures in place to contain the spread of vector borne diseases during the ongoing monsoon season.

At the meeting, it was reported that 3121 tests were conducted in Lunglei District in the month of May, of which 228 (Malaria Pv – 33 and Malaria Pf -195) were found to be infected with malaria.

The Chairman instructed representatives of National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), Lunglei District to scale up their initiatives including awareness programs, mass testing, source reduction of water, distribution of Long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLIN) etc. during this peak season.

The meeting also decided upon issuing a directive to the contractors carrying out various developmental works (road construction, electrification work) etc to provide their labourers with mosquito nets. NVBDCP, Lunglei District was also tasked with carrying out bed net impregnation for these contractors.

Lunglei District Malaria Officer Dr Lalrinthangi, Zonal Entomologist Dr Zahid Ali Khan and other officials were present at today’s meeting.

A training and refresher course on malaria & other vector borne disease testing and treatment was conducted for 197 ASHA workers within Lunglei District at Synod Conference Centre, Salem Veng today.
