Honorable Minister of Education, Government of India Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ virtually laid the Foundation Stone of IGNOU Regional Centre, Aizawl building today.
Virtually laying the Foundation Stone of IGNOU Regional Centre, Aizawl, Minister of Education, Government of India Hon'ble Dr.Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ commended IGNOU's role in higher education space in the country. On the occasion of 'Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony' of IGNOU Regional Centre, Aizawl, the minister said this will further fulfill the higher education aspirations of the population of Mizoram. The minister in his address shared that more than 34 thousand learners have benefited and pursued higher education programmes including Degree, Certificate programmes from the university in the last 5 years providing them employment opportunities as well through vocational courses.
Talking about the rich culture and flora & fauna of the State, the minister said that Mizoram is a land of rolling hills, valleys, rivers and lakes and the natural beauty of the state has been very well described by the Mizo poets over the years. He specifically mentioned the role played by Mizoram Students in the tree plantation drive "ek chatra ek vriksh".
Prof. Nageshwar Rao, Vice Chancellor, IGNOU stressed on building infrastructure which would give impetus to the university's activities in the State and said that IGNOU is committed in providing quality higher education to all covering all the geographies of India. He outlined the future road-map of the university which is in tune with the New Education Policy, 2020 with more focus on the Open System of Education pioneered by the university. Prof. Rao also shared the Online Education vision of the university at the foundation laying ceremony.
Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Satyakam, Registrar Dr. V. B. Negi, Finance Officer Dr. Jitendra Dev Gangwar, Chief Project Officer Shri Sudhir Reddy and Regional Director, Aizwal, Dr S.R.Zonunthara, Regional Director and staff were also present at the occasion. The officials of the CPWD, Aizawl, the construction partner for the building also gave a brief presentation on the structure of the Regional Centre building.
