No.300/2021-2022
The Fisheries, LAD, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister Pu K. Lalrinliana who was on a 3 days visit to Lunglei & Lawngtlai Districts, yesterday visited key initiatives under LAD & Fisheries Department within Lunglei District.
The Minister was accompanied by MLA Dr. K Pachhunga, LAD & Supply Secretary Pu Zothanmawia, Supply Director Pi Ramdinliani, DLAO Pu James Miahlung, DFDO Pi Christina Lalramchhani and other officials.
The team inspected Government Fish Seed farm at Tawipui N II which was developed back in 1988 through funding from the NEC. From 2008-2019, the farm was under the management of a local Fisheries cooperative society ZOFISHFED, and was recently handed back to the Government. The seed farm with 12 fish ponds used to be a flourishing site for fish and seed production, and was a hub of fishery related activities in the area for many years. Though it has fallen into decline since the past several years, it has a lot of potential to be revived as the area is blessed with abundant water sources.
The team then went on to inspect another seed farm Fish Seed Farm, Zobawk which was started in the year 1981. At the initiative of the Minister the ‘Chinese Circular Hatchery’ at this farm was repaired and renovated last year at a cost of Rs. 4.50 lakhs, with breeding operations ongoing at full swing at this farm. The Minister and Department officials discussed proposals for upgradation and strengthening of these Farms.
The Minister, along with the LAD team also visited District Park Lunglei located at Zobawk. The Park is currently under repair, with check dam, water reservoir, children’s playground, playground PCC flooring gallery, swimming pool renovations completed, and other civil works currently underway.
