Aizawl, the 31st January 2023 : Planning & Programme Implementation Department, Government of Mizoram today organized a series of events in Aizawl to mark the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of North Eastern Council (NEC), a part of commemorating 50 years of the North Eastern Council in Mizoram.
At 6:00 AM, NEC Golden Jubilee Run was flagged off from two locations in Aizawl by renowned Mizo footballer S. Malsawmtluanga (from Chanmari) and by Everest summiteer Smt. Lalrintluangi (from Sikulpuikawn). The prize distribution of the event was held at AR Ground where Shri Calvin Harris Kharshiing, Planning Adviser, NEC handed over the prizes. At the same venue, Inter Club/ YMA Branch Tug-of-War competitions (Men & Women) also took place at 10:00 AM.
Chief Minister Pu Zoramthanga graced the NEC Golden Jubilee Cultural Dance Festival and the closing function at the same venue as Chief Guest later in the afternoon. The Chief Minister lauded the contribution of NEC towards development and progress of Mizoram and other Northeastern states. He remarked that NEC must be strengthened and called upon the people to make Mizoram a model state. YMA Volunteers and Cultural Clubs spectacularly displayed Mass Cheraw Dance and Chheihlam. State Planning Board Vice Chairman also graced the occasion.
Governor of Mizoram and Member of NEC, Dr. Haribabu Kambhampati inaugurated a Symposium titled ‘Mizoram – A Developed State by 2047 – Challenges, Way Forward and Role of NEC & MDoNER’ at Aijal Club later in the afternoon. Addressing the inaugural programme of the symposium, the Governor remarked that Mizoram's progress in various sectors has been greatly enchanced and augmented throughout various schemes of NEC since. He expressed satisfaction over the utilisation of funds in NEC Schemes and said that NEC has a very important role in the developmental narrative of the region.
Dr. Lalrinchhana, Principal Adviser-cum-Addl. Secretary, Planning & Programme Implementation Department welcomed the dignitaries at the event. Besides, the Governor, Shri PL Thanga, former Secretary NEC and Dr. Renu Sharma, Chief Secretary Mizoram also spoke at the inaugural programme of the event. Shri Calvin Harris Kharshiing, Planning Adviser, NEC made a presentation on NEC while Smt. C. Lalnunsiami, Sr. Research Officer-cum-Under Secretary also gave a presentation on Achievements of NEC & MDoNER in Mizoram.
The Technical Session of the symposium which followed later was moderated by Shri Lalmalsawma Pachuau, Secretary, Planning & Programme Implementation Department. Presentations on various themes such as ‘Health Sector in Mizoram – Challenges and Way Forward’; ‘Gender Equality in Mizoram– Challenges and Way Forward’; Education in Mizoram – Challenges and Way Forward’ and Support System for Doing Business in Mizoram’ were made by invited resource persons from academia and government institutions.
