After a hiatus of two years, the State Tourism Department under the aegis of the Tourism Minister Pu Robert Romawia Royte is gearing up once again to organise the much-loved ‘Anthurium Festival’ at the Reiek Tourist Resort, which is about an hour’s drive from the capital, Aizawl. The State Level Organising Committee for Anthurium Festival 2019 met for the second time in the Minister’s office chamber today and chalked out detailed programme for the two-day Festival and also discussed other important matters relevant for its success and the public’s safety. The Anthurium Festival 2019 will be held for two days, ie. on 4th and 5th October, 2019.

Addressing the Committee Members, the Tourism Minister Pu Robert Romawia Royte stressed on the fact that as the Festival was going to be organised after a break of two years, every govenment department and NGOs involved in it should give their utmost in ensuring its successful revival. The Minister praised and thanked the social leaders and habitants of Reiek Village, who have over the years given full cooperation to the Tourism Deaprtment in organising festivals at the Reiek Tourist Resort. This year too, the Minister said, we will need immense support and help from the Reiek community and will continue to work with them in the future. Anthurium being one of the success stories of Mizoram, the whole Tourist Resort at Reiek will be once again decorated with different varieties and arrangements of the flower, which has over the years brought the florists of Mizoram more and more export business in the Anthrium variety. Therefore, the Minister has sent out a request to all the people who come to the Festival to be careful not to spoil the flower arrangements and other decorations in the festival area. He also added that the Anthruium Festival 2019 will be plastic-free in tandem with the ‘Plastic Free City Project’ soon to be announced by the Aizawl Municipal Corporation.

The inaugural function of the Anthurium Festival 2019 will be held on 4th October with the Tourism Minister Pu Robert Romawia Royte gracing the occasion as Chief Guest. The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Mizoram Pu Zoramthanga is expected to grace the second and final day of the Festival as Chief Guest. In the two-day Anthurium Festival, top artistes of Mizoram will be entertaining the crowd. There will be colourful display of the various traditional Mizo dances performed both by adults and children. Also, trekking to the famous Reiek hill-top, airgun shooting by the Mizoram Rifle Association, food courts, souvenir stalls by the KVI, fashion show and costume parade are aimed at bringing in the local crowd as well as tourists from outside the state. Reserve Bank of India plans to open a kiosk within the premises, in order to spread financial awareness and will also make arragements for the public to exchange torn or old money (both paper & coin) at the spot.
