Lt. Gen. Nirbhay Sharma PVSM, UYSM , AVSM, VSM (Retd), Governor of Mizoram has appealed to the people of Mizoram to observe Earth Hour on March 24, 2018 between 8:30PM to 9:30PM along with different nations of the world, through the initiatives taken by WWF International Network, WWF-India.

WWF-India has chosen the theme "Give Up to Give Back" for the Earth Hour 2018, which aims at preserving Earth and all its Natural resources through imparting awareness to stop all the ill-practices and habits which are detrimental to our environment.

The Governor urged the citizens of Mizoram to take steps and contribute towards making our Earth into a clean, healthy and sustainable environment for the conservation of its flora and fauna, and all its natural resources for the present and the next generation to come. Lt. Gen. Nirbhay Sharma, on this occasion, said that Economical use of fossil fuel and energy, encouraging the use of paper bags instead of plastics and minimizing food and water waste are the basic civic duties of a responsible citizen, which we must encourage to our fellow citizens to make our World into a better place. The Governor has appealed to the people of Mizoram to abide by the theme " Give Up to Give Back" and lend support to Earth Hour on March 24th, 8:30PM to 9:30PM by  having non-essential lights switched off.

WWF-India started the Earth Hour Campaign from 2009 and so far, 178 nations around the globe are observing Earth hour every year on March to symbolise their stand against climate change.
