Mizoram Governor Professor Jagdish Mukhi today visited Mizoram’s eastern-most district Champhai as well as the Indo-Myanmar border Trade Point located there. The Governor met with the district authorities and department officials at the Champhai Circuit House, where he was briefed on the progress made in different central government schemes such as RGGVY, Swachh Bharat Mission and PMUY. The Assam Rifles personnel, who guard the Indo-Myanmar border, also met the Governor briefing him on their duties and performance in their border vigil.

The Governor was received at the Champhai Helipad by the district authorities. Major Sunil Patel of 10 Assam Rifles gave a report on their activities along the border. Governor Professor Jagdish Mukhi commending the AR officials and personnel on their good performance further encouraged to use media and IT, whenever and wherever the necessity arose, as quick communication always helped in finding quick solutions. While appreciating the implementation of various government flagship programmes within Champhai district, the Governor added that all such programmes must percolate down to the last common man, for whose benefit these are actually made.
 
Commenting on the activities at Indo-Myanmar Border Trade Point, the Governor said that while free movement was allowed to some degree at the border, the security forces and concerned officials must ensure that no illegal goods be smuggled across the border to and fro. “Free movement is not a movement of illegal goods,” the Governor asserted. He also said that the NDA government with Prime Minister Modi at the helm has been a boon for the development of the Northeast Region. Under the NDA government, 15 new railway routes have been initiated within the region and Guwahati Airport is currently the 7th busiest airport within the country, he said. It is the NDA government’s target to reach ‘double crop’ int he agriculture and allied sectors by 2022, he added.
