Mahatma Gandhi and Mother Teresa were great people only because they had the hearts and love for others with their whole life time services to people around them, said the Chief Secretary. He was also concerned by vicious chain of concomitants of globalisation and competitive spirits beseting a Mizo society of today such as selfishness,  apathy to the welfare of others, decreasing sense of altruism among Mizos - all in the name of modernisation and progress. Lest all the good qualities of the Mizo society and culture by which the Mizos have so long been known for, they should be in danger of losing their identity in no time, he warned. He was deeply moved by the sympathetic hearts and willing sacrifices made by voluntary blood donors in saving the lives of the helpless and the needy.

Dr Eric Zomawia explained that  World blood Dononors' Day had been the bainchild of (World Health Organisation)WHO and its partners to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr Karl Lanstainer, the pioneer in Blood donation and discoverer of different types of Blood groups. He had also reported that 10 Blood banks in Mizoram had been operated to cater the needs of the needy. The goodwill services of voluntary blood donors in Mizoram had been laudable and examplary which had been substantially complemented by the efforts of AVBD, Health Department and various NGO's, he had acknowledged. At present AVBD and MSACS had been functioning various programmes and campaign for sensitization and awareness for voluntary blood donation in the state.
