Aizawl the 24th June, 2022 : On learning that some students and other persons of Mizoram were stranded in Silchar in Assam’s Cachar district due to heavy floods triggered by incessant rains, Mizoram Government immediately sent a Rescue team of 29 Mizoram Police personnel, comprising of Kolasib district police and IR battalion personnel to Silchar. The Rescue team carried 2 boats with 27 life jackets from Kolasib district and reached Mission Compound, Silchar last night at around 8:30 p.m.
The Rescue team in coordination with volunteers of Young Mizo Association (YMA) branch in Silchar started rescue operation since early morning and safely shifted 33 persons to Synod Mission Compound, Silchar. As of now, it appears that all the stranded Mizos have been shifted to safety.
Out of 33 persons rescued safely, 16 persons are being brought to Mizoram.
