Aizawl the 29th August, 2024: Alongwith the rest of the nation, National Sports Day celebrated with the rest of India, National Sports Day was celebrated today in Mizoram at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) State Training Centre, Mission Vengthlang. The theme of the National Sports Day is “Sports for the promotion of Peaceful and Inclusive Societies”.

Pu Lalramsanga Sailo, Secretary, Sports & Youth Services was the chief guest at the opening ceremony. In his address to the gathering, he said that sports is an important tool for fostering peace, unity and brotherhood. Stressing upon the importance of keeping a healthy mind and body, he pointed out the relation between good health and success in sports, and conversely how sports is useful for personal development, improving mental health and fighting against drug abuse. He invited all sportspersons to work together to realize the dream of Vision Olympic 2036.

As part of the National Sports Day celebration, officials and participants pledged to exercise for at least half an hour daily. Competition in various sports disciplines, including mini-marathon and indigenous games were held as part of the celebration. Sports & Youth Services office staff - Secretariat, Directorate, MSSC, KISCE, NCC, NSS, SAI and athletes participated in the programme.

Sports and community service activities were also held in schools, colleges, NCCs, NSSs, Sports & Youth offices in various districts and Khelo India Centers (KICs) in various districts. National Sports Day is celebrated every year in India on the birthday of famous cricketer Major Dhyan Chand.

The program was chaired by Pu C.Lalremsanga, Joint Director, Sports & Youth Services. The pledge taking ceremony was chaired by Pu Lianminthanga, Regional Director Sports Authority of India (SAI). The participants promised to exercise for at least half an hour daily. Pu H. Lalhmingthanga, Director, Sports & Youth Services concluded the programme with a vote of thanks.
