In order to mark the foundation day of Election Commission of India (ECI) and to encourage young voters to take part in the electoral process, 10th National Voters’ Day (NVD) themed as ‘Electoral Literacy for Stronger Democracy’ was celebrated today at Champhai DC’s Conference Hall. The programme was graced by District Election Officer Pu SL Naveen, IAS as the Chief Guest.

District Election Officer Pu SL Naveen heartily welcomed all the new voters to the electoral process and encouraged them to exercise their rights and duties properly. Also he applauded the sincere dedication contributed by ERO, AERO, BLO, Election Staffs and NGO’s during the electoral roll revision.

Pu Lalnunfela Chawngthu, Election Officer Champhai elaborated the ‘Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP), a nationwide campaign by ECI to public awareness on electoral process. Pu Benjamin Zalawma Ralte, SDC read out the message of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Pu Sunil Arora and gave powerpoint presentation on the topic ‘Electoral Literacy Club’. Pu Manesia Khaimeichho, SDC administered the taking of Voters’ Pledge on National Voters Day.

Distribution of Best Booth Level Officer (BLO) took place in which Pu Laldinpuia Saiawi, Teacher, Comprehensive M/S Kawlkulh, 21/23 Kawlkulh III BLO (Lengteng A/C); PC Lallawma, Headmaster, Ngaizawl M/S, 23/15 Ngaizawl BLO (Champhai North A/C); Pu T.Remmawia, Teacher, Govt. Comprehensive M/S, Champhai Venglai, 24/4 Kanan II BLO (Champhai South A/C) and Pu F.Lalvulliana, Teacher, Khuangleng M/S, 25/5 Khuangleng BLO (East Tuipui A/C) were given Citation and Cash Award by the Chief Guest for their outstanding performance during the ongoing roll revision.

The programme was attended by new voters, ERO, AERO, BLO and media, among others.
