The Election Commission of India has appointed a new appellate authority for the state of Mizoram. This decision has been made under Section 24 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, which was amended in 1996.
The new appellate authority is responsible for handling appeals related to the inclusion or removal of names in the electoral rolls of Mizoram. This means if a person disagrees with a decision about their name being added or removed from the voter list, they can now approach this authority.
The Chief Electoral Officer of Mizoram Pi Ethel Rothangpuii has been appointed to this position. This change is meant to ensure that voters in Mizoram have a fair and clear way to resolve issues with the electoral roll.
