Lunglei, 25th March, 2021: A Head of Office meeting was held yesterday at DC's Conference Hall, Lunglei with Pi Vanlaldiki Sailo, Commissioner, Persons with Disabilities (PwD). Lunglei DC Pu Kulothungan A chaired the meeting. Lunglei SP Pu Rex Zarzoliana Vanchhawng was also in attendance.

Pi Vanlaldiki Sailo highlighted various policies and schemes implemented by the government for the welfare of persons with disabilities and urged the members to commit themselves to work for their welfare. She also spoke about the Accessible India Campaign under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, and urged the officials present to make their buildings and toilets accessible for the disabled.

Reports on performance and achievement regarding the welfare of persons with disabilities within Lunglei District were given by Samagra Shiksha, Lunglei District, H&FW, Food, Civil Supplies & consumer Affairs and Social Welfare Department. Currently there are 760 children with disabilities enrolled in schools in Lunglei District. The Social Welfare Department was tasked with gathering data on unenrolled children and also adults with disabilities. Samagra Shiksha, Lunglei District was also instructed to ensure that Special Needs Teachers under their jurisdiction carry out their duties as per guidelines laid out for them.
