North Eastern Institute of Fashion Tecnology (NEIFT) kicked off the "North East Handloom Festival 2010" at Vanapa Hall on 17th June (saturday). The Minister for Art and Culture Pu P.C. Zoram Sangliana inaugurated this festival.The Minister appreciated NEIFT, Guwahati's effort to promote the apparel industry of the North East which he hoped would be an eyeopener for the first generation entrepreneurs to materialize the vision of the present government to alleviate the socio-economic condition of this region.

Mizoram Chief Minister on tour to Delhi also conveyed his best wishes  for this festival.

The handloom fashion show "Symphony of Weaves-the Handloom Ensemble " featured local and international models showcasing designs by Vikram Rai Medhi, CEO of NEIFT and his team of mizo designer students. The festival aims at promoting the enormous talent of designers, craftsmen and weavers of the north eastern states and will travel on to Guwahati, Itanagar and Dimapur. It is organized by NEIFT in association with Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India.
