Aizawl, the 1st December 2023: Under the initiatives of Ek Bharat Shreshta Bharat, Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati hosted a program to commemorate the Celebration of Assam Day( Asom Day) and Formation Day of Nagaland State at the Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, today.

The state of Assam was formed on 26, January 1950 as a state. However, Since 1996 December 2 has been celebrated in Assam as the Sukaphaa Divas, or Axom Divas (Assam Day), to commemorate the advent of the first king of the Ahom kingdom in Assam after his journey over the Patkai Hills. While, Nagaland was formed as a state on December 1, 1963, it became the 16th State of the Indian Union.

Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati, on this historic occasion, sends his warm greetings and congratulations to the people of the two states. He paid rich tributes to all those leaders and the citizens of the states who contributed to the formation of their states. He spoke on how sharing and celebrating other states’ formation days would help one another in familiarizing with others’ cultures and heritage. He believes that this important cultural program is already promoting unity and strengthening India as a nation, and also safeguarding the unity in diversities aspired in our Constitution. He thanked the Ministry of Home Affairs for this positive initiative for the promotion of brotherhood and cultural bonding. Governor, after his address interacted with the participants.

The Program started with the showcasing of a video clip about Assam State and a video clip about Nagaland State.

In this function, on behalf of the respective states, two student leaders representing their state - Mr. Nganloi Phom, President of the Naga Students Union, Mizoram University, and Mr Biki Hazarika, President, Assam Association, Mizoram University addressed the gathering with short speeches. Prof. Dibakar Chandra Deka, Vice Chancellor, MZU from Assam, and Dr. Aosenen Ozukum, Research Associate, MZU from Nagaland also spoke about their respective states and their cultures.

The participants at the Asom Day and Nagaland State Day were entertained with lively performances of songs and dances by various artists representing the two states.
