Mizoram Rajya Sabha MP Mr. K. Vanlalvena drew the attention of the House during Zero Hour of the on-going Parliament session on the closing of Indo-Myanmar Border Trade Centre at Zokhawthar in the border district of Champhai and matter related to it.

Mr. K. Vanlalvena mentioned that Indo-Myanmar Border Trade Centre at Zokhawthar remains closed since April last year due to covid pandemic. Meanwhile, vested interests are illegally smuggling goods into the state at 7 locations  through temporary routes and paths without the knowledge of the state government nor paying taxes. He cautioned that these routes can be further utilised for smuggling activities in future. To clamp down illegal trade and to normalise border trade as before, he urged the Central Government to take necessary steps for reopening Border Trade Centre at Zokhawthar.
