Tlabung the 6th April, 2023 – Rural Development Minister of Mizoram Pu Lalruatkima yesterday inaugurated the 28th RD Block of Mizoram, Tlabung RD Block, at a function held at Tlabung Rural Development Block Office Complex in Lunglei District.

Lunglei HPC Vice Chairman Pu Lawmawma Tochhawng, West Tuipui MLA Pu Nihar Kanti Chakma, Rural Development Secretary Dr Lalzirmawia Chhangte, Lunglei DC Pi Ramdinliani and other dignitaries as well as NGOs, VCs and the general public were present at the inaugural.

The Council of Ministers meeting on 25th March, 2022 approved the proposal to set up 2 new RD Blocks in Mizoram at Tlabung and Kawrtethawveng. Consequently, the new Tlabung RD Block was carved out from the neighboring Lungsen and Bunghmun RD Blocks on 20th May, 2022. The Government of Mizoram has appointed Pu H. Zonunmawia, SDO(C) Tlabung as the first BDO of Tlabung RD Block, and he is currently assisted by a team of 16 MGNREGA Staff. The Government has also created posts of BDO-1, Assistant -1, Inspector of Statistics-1, UDC-1, LDC-1 IV Grade - 2 vide an order dated 7th October, 2022.

Tlabung is located 89 kms to the west of the District Capital town, Lunglei, and is an important historical town of Mizoram. The township was first established and settled in November 1871, and the first Post Office and first Police Station of Mizoram were established here. The establishment of a Rural Development Block has been a long standing demand of the people of Tlabung.

The newly established RD Block contains 17 authorised villages and 10 authorised sub villages as below:
