Aizawl, the 12th May 2020 : State Election Commission today finalised seats(Municipal Wards) to be reserved for women in the upcoming Aizawl Municipal Corporations Elections by drawing lots in the presence of representatives of various political parties and state level NGOs at the CYMA Hall in Tuikhuahtlang.

From the 19 Municipal Wards in Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC), 6 Wards are reserved in every election for women by drawing lots in rotation as mandated by Article 243 (T) of the Constitution  and  Section 13 sub section 9   of the Mizoram Municipalities Act 2007. In the earlier 2 AMC elections held in 2010 and 2015 respectively 6 Wards each respectively were reserved for women. For the elections to AMC scheduled to be held later this year, 7 wards which still have not had Women Corporators were put in the lot and  Ward III, Ward VIII, Ward X, Ward XIV, Ward XVI and Ward XIX were drawn from the it which will be the 6 seats(Wards) to be reserved for women.  

SEC Commissioner Pu Laima Chozah, IAS (Rtd.) and SEC Secretary Pi Teresy Valalhruaii conducted the proceedings of today’s drawing of the lot. Representatives of MNF, MPCC, BJP, MPC, ZPM and  PRISM  as well as representatives of  MHIP, MUP and MPF were present in addition to Aizawl DC Pu Vanlalngaihsaka, AMC Municipal Commissioner Pu K. Laldingliana and  UD&PA and GAD Departments senior officials.
