Dr. Chawnglungmuana, Secretary and Members of the Managing Committee of the Indian Red Cross Society Mizoram State Branch, Dr. Saroj Laldinpuii, Principal of Government Aizawl North College, Faculty members, dear students, and friends.
I am very happy to be here today as we formally inaugurate the activities of the Indian Red Cross Society Mizoram State Branch at Government Aizawl North College. This event marks a new beginning, a renewal of our commitment to serve others with compassion, dedication, and unity.
Mizoram has always stood tall across the nation for its strong sense of community and solidarity. The Mizo way of life is deeply rooted in values of kindness, volunteerism, and selfless service.
We are a society where neighbours care for each other, where young and old stand side by side in times of need. Yet, even in such a compassionate society, there is immense value in having a structured, internationally recognized humanitarian organization like the Indian Red Cross Society.
The Red Cross brings with it the noble ideals of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, voluntary service. It also provides training, organization, and resources that can multiply the impact of the help we already offer one another every day.
I am delighted to witness the revival of the Red Cross Society in Mizoram in recent days, and especially the establishment of the Youth Red Cross Unit here at Government Aizawl North College. I commend the leadership of the College and the Red Cross Managing Committee for this initiative.
Government Aizawl North College, since its humble beginning in 1988, has grown into one of the leading colleges in Mizoram. With active student organizations ranging from NSS, NCC, and Red Ribbon Club to adventure and cultural clubs, this college exemplifies the holistic development of young minds.
I am especially encouraged by the college’s mission to uplift society through education, social service, and skill development.
The establishment of this Youth Red Cross Unit is truly a natural extension of that mission. I appeal to the youth of Mizoram: You are the future torchbearers of our state and nation. Join the Red Cross. Learn first aid. Volunteer during disasters. Organize awareness campaigns. A small act of service can change someone’s life.
Let this college be the spark that lights a state-wide movement. I call upon all educational institutions in Mizoram to establish Red Cross units and equip students with life-saving skills and values.
I also take this opportunity to applaud the Basic Life Support and First Aid training session scheduled after this programme. These skills are useful tools of empowerment. I remember learning such techniques during my own youth, and they have served me well in times of emergency, both in service and in personal life.
As we open this new chapter today, let us remember that the Red Cross is more than an organization. It is a symbol of hope, humanity, and unity. Let Mizoram become a model for Red Cross engagement, not just in the North East, but across all of India. Let us move forward together, guided by purpose, compassion, and the enduring Mizo value of selfless service.
Ka lawm e. Jai Hind!
