Professor D.C Deka, Vice Chancellor, Ambassador Gurjit Singh, Registrar, faculty, Staff of Mizoram University, Students, invitees, dear friends.

It is my pleasure to be part of the Silver Jubilee Celebration of Mizoram University. Celebrating twenty-five years of growth and achievement is a remarkable milestone for any institution. On such occasions, we look back on the journey so far, while looking ahead with fresh hope and renewed purpose.

I extend my warm greetings to all who have gathered here to mark this joyous occasion. It is also a pleasure to have with us today, Amb Gurjit Singh, whom we heard just a while ago. It has also made the Silver Jubilee Celebrations more meaningful.

Today, I see before me a community of bright, motivated students who have come from different places to be part of this university, and to embrace its commitment to excellence and strive for greater achievements.

It is your unwavering faith in the power of education that has helped Mizoram University reach this proud milestone.

As Governor, it is a privilege for me to witness firsthand the important role Mizoram University has played in the growth of higher education in our state and the region.

Even in my short time here, I have come to appreciate the university’s steady progress and its strong commitment to academic excellence.

Over the past twenty-five years, Mizoram University has developed a wide range of academic programmes across a broad spectrum of disciplines, including Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences, and various Professional Courses. This shows a clear vision to provide diverse and inclusive learning opportunities.

I am also encouraged by the university’s efforts to build a supportive and well-equipped environment for its students, faculty, and staff.

From modern facilities and digital infrastructure to housing, scholarships, sports amenities, and childcare support. All of these contribute to a vibrant academic community.

I look forward to seeing the university continue to grow and serve as a beacon of learning and opportunity for the people of Mizoram and all those who come here from other states.

Mizoram University has been accredited 'A' Grade by NAAC, has consecutively achieved position within the top 100 Higher Education Institutions in NIRF Ranking since 2016, and it stands among the top 30 universities in 'India Today Rankings', as also 2nd  among the eight central universities in the north-east.

There is an impressive teachers-to-students ratio of 1:10, with more than 91% of teachers having PhD or higher degrees. More than 84% of teaching posts are filled.

Highly disciplined students and their elected Students' Council convey an environment of responsibility, maintaining a congenial, ragging-free academic environment.

One of the most impressive things about Mizoram University is the environment it offers, both in terms of its physical setting and academic spirit. Spread across nearly 1000 acres of lush, green hills, the campus is not only eco-friendly but also incredibly peaceful, making it an ideal place for learning and personal growth.

I appreciate the university’s commitment to being inclusive and forward-looking.

Given its unique location in the North-East, Mizoram University is well-positioned to play a strategic role in advancing the Central Government’s ‘Act East Policy’.

As we continue to strengthen ties with South East Asian nations, the university has the opportunity to serve as a hub for cross-border academic and cultural exchange.

Its proximity to international borders, combined with a growing reputation for academic excellence, places it in a strong position to attract students from neighbouring countries and foster meaningful regional partnerships.

I am happy to note the growing contribution of Mizoram University to the national pursuit of knowledge, innovation, and social progress. The university has shown a strong commitment to meaningful research, backed by clear policies and a sound institutional framework.

The university has extended strong support to its faculty members in their research pursuits. Faculty are actively encouraged to engage in both national and interdepartmental collaborations, resulting in 80 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and 476 academic and institutional linkages during the period.

The academic output of the university is impressive, with over 2,234 research papers and 868 books or book chapters published in reputed national and international forums.

The Research Advisory Committee ensures that research remains focused, relevant, and forward-looking.

It is gratifying to learn that over 430 PhDs have been awarded, several patents granted and published, and significant research funding attracted from external sources.

That are not just academic milestones, but are markers of a university that is actively engaging with the world around it.

Importantly, Mizoram University is aligning its research efforts with the needs of our region.

Whether it is addressing the challenges of climate change in the hill ecosystems, promoting sustainable agricultural practices, improving access to healthcare, or exploring better connectivity solutions, the university’s work is grounded in reality and directed toward impact.

That is the kind of education we need; one that connects to the aspirations of people and offers pathways for development.

Today, Mizoram University stands as a shining example of how an institution can transform lives and uplift communities through education. By providing equitable, accessible, and quality education, the University has not only shaped individual lives, but has also contributed meaningfully to the progress of our communities.

In recent years, it has made significant strides in combining academic learning with skill development, ensuring that students are prepared not just for exams, but for the real challenges of life.

As we mark this Silver Jubilee, let us renew our shared commitment to support and strengthen this institution, so that it may continue to grow, to serve, and to fulfil its promise.

Ka lawm e.

Thank you. Jai Hind!
