Sports Minister Pu Robert Romawia Royte inaugurated Hnahlan Zone Football Championship 2020, at Hnahlan Village, here in Champhai District yesterday. The Minster was accompanied by Champhai North MLA and Vice Chairman, Health & Family Welfare Board Dr. ZR Thiamsanga.

Speaking at the inaugural programme, the Minister said that playing football does not limits to playground only, instead it serves the youths to refrain from ill-habits, thus providing healthy lifestyle. The State Government has recently amended law in which 5% Government jobs starting from Group B and below has been reserved for well performed sportspersons.

He also highlighted different measures taken up by the State government for the welfare of the people. Talking at length about the importance of fitness, the Minister reiterated that the State government had started Fit Mizoram Movement on March 22, 2019 way ahead of the Central Government’s Fit India Movement. He also mentioned that technical survey will be taken up soon for Hnahlan Football Field, Government is trying to install and revamp Sports Infrastructure at Hnahlan, he added. He encouraged the young enthusiast footballers to promote Football Tourism in the State.

Champhai North MLA and Vice Chairman, Health & Family Welfare Board, Government of Mizoram Dr. ZR Thiamsanga also stressed and appreciated the abilities of Hnahlan and its adjoining areas in various Sports arena. With the auspicious visit of Sports Minster, he expressed his hope to foster the Sports revival and prosperity at Hnahlan area.

The inaugural programmme was presided by Pu Hrangthanpuia Fanai, Senior Vice President, Hnahlan Zone Football Association. Pu C.Hualrikhuma, President CDFA Champhai also delivered a speech on the occation.

All together 8 Football Teams have turned up for the Championship vying for a top spot. Officials like Pu Lalsangliana, Director, SYS; Pu Saitluanga, Join Director, Tourism; Pu Lalrammawia, Chairman, ZOHANCO; Pu Benjamin Zalawma Ralte, DSYO and Dr Lallawmkima, DIPRO were also present on the inaugural programme.

Pu Robert Romawia Royte, who is incharge of Sports & Youth Services, Tourism and Information Communication & Technology also visited his departments’ activities at Saitual, Khawzawl and Champhai District.

He visited ongoing works like Saitual Football Field, Keifanga Basketball Ground, Dulte Football Field, Kawlkulh Football Field. Khawzawl Mualvawm Field, Khawzawl Sports Complex, Khawzawl Volleyball Court, Khawzawl Tourist Lodge, Champhai Chhangphhut Field, District Sports Complex New Champhai and Tourist Lodge Champhai.
