Education Secretary K.Riachho, IAS, presided over a meeting of State Core Committee on Adolescence Education Programme (AEP), held at his office chamber, here today.
Adolescence Education Programme (AEP)  was constituted jointly by Ministry of Human Resources and Development (MHRD) and National AIDS control Organization (NACO) in 2005 and is not a totally new education programme entity as such; rather it is an umbrella programme wherein the existing education programme such as National Population Education Project (NPEP), School AIDS Education Programme (SAEP) and Adolescence Reproductive and Sexual Health (ARSH) were integrated into,  and AEP at its apex for  better coverage of  all the students of high schools and higher secondary schools.

AEP, SCERT and MSACS of Mizoram jointly implementing the said programme in a total of 535 high schools and higher secondary schools since 2006 by appointing 2 nodal teachers (one male and one female teacher) among teachers and 2 Peer Educators among the  students from each school. Those Nodal teachers and Peer educators were given training time to time on Adolescence Education package-Life skills development, facilitators and challenges of adolescence.

Textual Material and Toolkits of AEP was prepared jointly by MHRD and NACO, and the main aim of AEP is to equip adolescents with all the proper information to protect themselves from various vices that might litter their path of journey from childhood to adulthood. Enabling them to say NO to all the socially unacceptable things tactfully, and the same time guiding them to right path.  Informing them their sexual development and the changes and problems it could bring forth, and how to protect themselves from HIV and other diseases..etc.
