30th September, 2024 : A State-Level Consultative Meeting on NEC Vision 2047 was held on 30th September at Aijal Club, Aizawl. The event was organized by NEDFi in collaboration with the North Eastern Council (NEC) and the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNHR).

In her address. Pi Irene Lalhlimpuii Chongthu. Additional Secretary of the Planning & Programme Implementation Department, highlighted that NEC Vision 2047 will require the joint efforts of the government, private sector, communities and all other stakeholders to implement its transformative agenda. She stressed the need to revisit the regulatory framework to promote entrepreneurship and mentioned Mizoram*s potential as a key player in cross-border trade with Myanmar and Bangladesh. She also noted the growing involvement of youth in the entertainment sector, particularly in film and music.

Pi Sherry Lalthangzo, Senior Economic Adviser of NEC, emphasized the need to boost production in products like pork to create export surpluses, and mentioned about upcoming facilities such as the Matabari deep sea port . She also mentioned that NIPER is working on developing species and herbs, and that NEC has launched the NL RACE platform to support marketing for farmers and the food processing sector. She further highlighted that the Ministry of DoNER is organizing investment summits to attract investments to the region.

S.K. Baruah. Executive Director of NEDFi, noted that a committee of 34 experts and 4 core members is working on the Vision 2047 document, incorporating inputs from both state and central governments. He stressed the importance of collaboration in shaping the plan and urged participants to give their inputs.

Prof. K.M. Bujarbaruah. a core committee member of the drafting committee, delivered a detailed presentation on the NEC Vision Plan 2047. including inputs already received from the Government of Mizoram. This was followed by an interactive session with participation from senior officials of government departments, educational institutions, banks, trade bodies, entrepreneurs, and civil society organizations.

Later in the evening, the NEDFi team met with the Chief Minister of Mizoram to brief him on the vision document and handed over a copy of the draft.
