'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' (AKAM) started on 12th March, 2021 with a march from Sabarmati to Dandi to commemorate India’s 75 years of Independence and celebrations have been going on across the country for more than two years.
The Government of India has devised the 'Meri Maati Mera Desh' which is a campaign envisaged as a culminating event of the AKAM. It involves paying tribute to the bravehearts who have made the supreme sacrifice for the country, by conducting ceremonies at panchayat/village/block/urban/state and national level.
The State Level Launching Programme was held on 9th August, 2023 at Secretariat Confererence Hall, Mizoram New Capital Complex. Dr. Lalrozama, State Nodal Officer & Secretary, S&YS Department chaired the programme and Dr. Renu Sharma, Chief Secretary, Govt of Mizoram was the Chief Guest. The Chief Guest informed the meeting that the 'Meri Maati Mera Desh' campaign was significantly important for national integration and cooperation and requested all stakeholders concerned to give sincere efforts for the success of this campaign.
'Meri Maati Mera Desh' campaign is to be observed in every village and urban locality during 9th to 15th August, 2023. All District Commissioners are Nodal Officers for Urban Areas and the Block Development Officers in Rural Areas.
There are 5 (five) elements in the campaign which are:
1. Dedication of Silaphalakam : Erection of Memorial Stone of Veers or bravehearts - freedom fighters and personnels from forces who have died in the line of duty (Mandatory in Urban areas, Optional in Rural Areas)
2. Paanch Pran Pledge : Administration of pledge to motherland in all programs
3. Vasudha Vandhan- planting of 75 saplings of indigenous species
4. Veeron Ka Vandhan: Felicitation of living/retired freedom fighters & families of deceased freedom fighters. Honouring retired & deceased ersonnel from defence, CAPF & State Police who died in the line of duty.
5. Hoisting of National Flag and singing of Rashtragaan (National Anthem)
