Aizawl, 25 May 2026: Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying and Panchayati Raj, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, visited the MULCO Dairy at Thuampui today and announced several initiatives aimed at strengthening the cooperative dairy sector in Mizoram.
The programme was attended by Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying and Minority Affairs George Kurian, Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying and Panchayati Raj S. P. Singh Baghel, Mizoram’s Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Minister C. Lalsawivunga, Cooperation Minister P. C. Vanlalruata, Fisheries Minister Lalthansanga, along with senior government officials, representatives from the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), officials from Mizoram Milk Producers' Cooperative Union Limited, cooperative society members, and farmers.
At the MULCO Dairy premises, the Union Minister and his delegation were welcomed by MULCO management and officials. The occasion also included the inauguration of the Mizo Café and the FPO Office-cum-Sales Outlet.
Following this, the Union Minister visited the MULCO Dairy Processing Plant, where NDDB officials briefed him on plans to upgrade and strengthen the 20 TLPD milk processing plant and presented their requirements.
In his speech, Minister Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh expressed appreciation for the progress made by MULCO and stated that the advancement achieved through the efforts of dairy cooperatives and workers was commendable. He assured continued cooperation between the Central and State Governments to sustain this development.
The Minister noted that milk production in Mizoram remains low and is insufficient to meet local demand. He stressed that Mizoram should not lag behind neighboring northeastern states and urged farmers and officials to work with renewed commitment to improve the sector.
Announcing several initiatives, the Minister described as encouraging news for farmers and the state government the revision of the Central Government’s funding pattern. The earlier 75:25 sharing ratio has now been changed to 90:10, significantly reducing the state government’s financial burden and helping accelerate developmental activities.
He further stated that milk processing plants and village-level procurement systems would continue to be upgraded. In collaboration with NDDB, quality cattle breeds through Artificial Insemination and improved cattle feed (fodder) would be made more accessible to farmers. MULCO products manufactured within Mizoram — including paneer, rasmalai, and ghee — would also be marketed more extensively in Aizawl and nearby markets.
The Minister emphasized that the Central Government is committed to providing maximum support for the development of the North East, but the real success of these initiatives depends on the dedication of the State Government and livestock farmers.
During the programme, several new initiatives and products were launched, including MULCO Cow Ghee and various products such as baled silage, Type-II cattle feed, dewormers, and mineral mixture products.
Certificates related to fisheries were also distributed during the event. Fisheries KCC cards, Best Startup in Fisheries awards, and Best Fisheries Cooperative recognitions were presented as well.
Commissioner & Secretary of the Cooperation Department, Udit Prakash Rai, explained various plans and initiatives for strengthening Mizoram’s cooperative dairy sector. NDDB Chairman Meenesh Shah highlighted the importance of strengthening dairy cooperatives and improving milk-processing infrastructure in Mizoram. Farmers under MULCO and fish farmers also shared how they benefited from Central Government initiatives and spoke about their work.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department Secretary and MULCO Chairman Lalsangliana.
