Aizawl the 9th March,2022: District Hospital,Siaha organised an observant function of World Glaucoma Week,2022 at Eye OPD at District Hospital's Complex with a theme: The World is Bright,Save your Sight, here in Siaha, today.

Dr. Lalnunziri,CMO presided over the function and highlighted the achievements of District Hospital, Siaha during 2020-2022, in eye cares.As par CMO's reports:
1) Cataract operation was carried out successfully for 23 patients
2)Several schools were visited to carry out eye check up for students and suspected 786 students were screened.

3) 839 Glasses were distributed to senior citizens and patients from economically weaker section of the society.

Speaking on the occassion, Eye Specialist Dr. Laltanpuia said, Glaucoma is a eye disease that damaged the optic nerve which eventually lead to blindness and it is one the leading causes of Blindness in Mizoram, especially amongst our senior citizens.He warned the general public not, without doctor's prescription, to use eyedrops at one's whims, especially Betnesol which could trigger high BP in eye, as Glaucoma is caused by high BP in eye.
Dr.Laltanpuia, while highlighting the symptoms of Glaucoma, he earnestly implored citizens of Siaha District to be more alert and concious about symptoms of Glaucoma in order to avert blindness.

Most common Symptoms of Glaucomia are:-
1)Severe Headache and Eye Pain
2)Halos around light with rainbow colours
3)Loss of Side vision
4)Sudden loss of Vision etc..

DR.Tp-a advised the general public to immediately consult eye doctor if sufferered with any of the symptoms.
