190/2026-2027

Lunglei, 21 June 2026: In a remarkable display of commitment, vision and grassroots outreach, 2 Mizo Battalion NCC, Lunglei transformed the celebration of the 12th International Yoga Day into a region-wide movement, reaching some of the most remote corners of Mizoram under the theme "Yoga for Healthy Ageing".

What made this year's celebration truly unique was not merely the scale of participation, but the powerful message it carried. From the bustling district headquarters of Lunglei to the distant borders of Siaha, Lawngtlai and Chawngte (Kamalanagar), nearly 800 NCC cadets came together as one force, united by the ideals of health, discipline, resilience and national integration.

The flagship event at C. Ṭhuamluaia Mual, Lunglei turned into a celebration of youth excellence and inspiration. The programme was graced by distinguished personalities and youth icons whose presence served as a source of motivation for the young cadets. Among them was Ms Emily C. Rohluzuali, National Silver Medallist in Arm Wrestling, who herself is an alumna of 2 Mizo Battalion NCC. Her journey from an NCC cadet to a national achiever stood as a shining example of what determination and discipline can achieve.

Adding further inspiration to the occasion was celebrated Mizo vocalist and youth icon Ms Feli Hauhnar, whose presence resonated strongly with the young participants. Representatives from 166 Infantry Battalion (TA), 23 Assam Rifles, ECHS Lunglei, 2nd MAP Battalion, District Sports & Youth Office, Ex-Servicemen fraternity, civil administration and police authorities also joined the celebrations, reflecting the broad support enjoyed by the NCC movement in the region.

While the spotlight remained on Lunglei, the true success story unfolded across the rugged terrain of South Mizoram. Simultaneous Yoga sessions were conducted at Government Saiha College, Siaha; Don Bosco School, Lawngtlai, and Astro Turf Football Ground, Kamalanagar, ensuring that the message of Yoga reached youth residing in areas often considered geographically challenging and distant from mainstream activities.

The successful conduct of synchronised events across four locations stands as a testament to the organisational capabilities, dedication and teamwork of the officers, ANOs, CTOs, PI Staff and cadets of 2 Mizo Battalion NCC. Despite adverse weather conditions and logistical challenges associated with operating in remote regions, the celebrations were conducted seamlessly, reflecting the Battalion's growing reputation as a dynamic and result-oriented NCC unit.

This achievement assumes even greater significance considering the vast and dispersed Area of Responsibility of the Battalion. In a region where connectivity and terrain frequently pose challenges, 2 Mizo Battalion NCC succeeded in carrying the spirit of International Yoga Day to the very last mile, ensuring that no cadet was left behind in this nationwide movement.

The celebration as conducted under the able leadership and visionary guidance of Colonel Sagar K. Mohanty, Commanding Officer, 2 Mizo Battalion NCC, whose unwavering focus on youth development, inclusivity and outreach has transformed the Battalion into a vibrant centre of excellence for NCC activities in Central and South Mizoram. His emphasis on taking opportunities to the remotest institutions has enabled hundreds of young cadets to participate in national initiatives and developmental activities.

As the echoes of Yoga resonated across the valleys and hills of Mizoram, the event reaffirmed the timeless message of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – The World is One Family". More than a celebration, it was a powerful demonstration of how disciplined youth, inspired leadership and community participation can come together to build a healthier, stronger and more united nation.
