Aizawl the 25th, January’ 2022 : Along with the rest of the country, the 12th National Voters’ Day (NVD) was celebrated in Lunglei District today. The theme for this year’s National Voters’ Day, ‘Making Elections Inclusive, Accessible and Participative’, envisages focus on ECI’s commitment to facilitate active participation of voters during the elections and to make the complete process hassle free and a memorable experience for all categories of voters, said ECI in a release.
The Lunglei District celebration function was held at the DC Conference Hall with Lunglei District Election Officer and DC Pu Kulothungan A, IAS as the Chief Guest. Pi C. Lalduhzuali, Election Officer chaired the function.
Speaking on the occasion, the District Election Officer urged the citizens of the District to compulsorily enroll themselves in the electoral roll, and to exercise their franchise in every election, right from the municipal level to the MP elections. He called upon parents and guardians of newly eligible voters to ensure their enrollment during Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls. He also took the opportunity to thank NGOs, VCs, political parties and media persons for their proactive role in electoral literacy initiatives, and conduct of free and fair elections in the District.
Lunglei DIPRO Pi C.Lalremruati presided over the Voters’ Day Pledge “We, the citizens of India, having abiding faith in democracy, hereby pledge to uphold the democratic traditions of our country and the dignity of free, fair and peaceful elections, and to vote in every election fearlessly and without being influenced by considerations of religion, race, caste, community, language or any inducement.”

The National Voters’ Day (NVD) was first celebrated on January 25, 2011, to mark the Foundation day of Election Commission of India. The Election Commission of India, or ECI, was established on January 25, 1950. The main purpose of the NVD celebration is to encourage, facilitate and maximize the enrolment, especially for the new voters. Dedicated to the voters of the country, the Day is utilized to spread awareness among voters for promoting informed participation in the electoral process. ECI Publication ‘Leap of Faith: Journey of Indian Elections’ will be released at the national function today.
