Serchhip, January 25, 2025: The 15th National Voters' Day was celebrated today at the Serchhip DC Office Hall with a program emphasizing the importance of voting and the value of democracy.

The event was graced by Chief Guest Pu Paul L. Khuma, who highlighted the significance of National Voters' Day, first celebrated in 2011 to mark the establishment of the Election Commission of India. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “The main purpose of this day is to teach us the greatness, goodness, and value of democracy. It is a reminder for all voters to participate actively in every election.” The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of being informed and educated voters and electing good leaders who prioritize the welfare of the people and the country. He warned that electing poor leaders could adversely affect not just the present generation but also future ones.

The program was chaired by Election Officer Pi Pi F. Lalnisai, while Dr. Marilyn Lalruatkimi, SDC, led the gathering in the 'Voter Pledge.' As part of the event, Chief Guest Pu Paul L. Khuma distributed EPIC (Electors Photo Identity Card) cards to newly registered voters, symbolizing their inclusion in the democratic proces.

A Voters Awareness cum Quiz Competition was also organized at Government Higher Secondary School, Serchhip, to promote youth engagement and educate participants about voters' responsibilities. The event's theme, “Nothing like voting, I vote for sure,” resonated throughout the day.

Today’s program saw participation from new voters, Block Level Officers, political party representatives, community leaders, NGO leaders, MJA representatives, and government officials. The celebration underscored the importance of active participation in democracy and inspired citizens to fulfill their duties as responsible voters.
