Aizawl the 24th January, 2025: Alongwith the rest of the country, 10 years of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) cum National Girl Child Day 2025 was celebrated today at Dawrpui Multi-purpose Centre, Aizawl. Chief Secretary Shri Khilli Ram Meena, IAS graced the function as Chief Guest. The function was organised by State Hub for Empowerment of Women (SHEW), Directorate of Women & Child Development, Mizoram.

In his address to the gathering, Chief Secretary Shri Khilli Ram Meena explained the situation which gave rise to BBBP scheme and highlighted the importance for three departments – Social Welfare & Tribal Affairs, Women & Child Development, Health & Family Welfare Department and School Education Department to work in tandem to fully realize the goals of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme in the state. The Chief Secretary applauded the works done by various stakeholders while noting that compared to the national average, Mizoram had a much better child sex ratio. He added that this however still fell short of the desired level and presently, certain areas need to improve as indicated by statistics.

The theme for the day is "Empowering girls for a bright future". Selected girls were felicitated in the function for their achievements in Academics (STEM) and Sports. Attendees of the function took a pledge to ensure a safe beginning and bright future with equal opportunity for the girl child. The Pledge taking was administered by Jennifer Lalrinzuali Renthlei, Miss Mizoram 2024 & WCD Ambassador.

Today's function was chaired Smt. Pi Lalzarmawii, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, SWTA, W&CD. Shri Lalramsanga Sailo, IRS, Secretary, Sports & Youth Services and Excise & Narcotics Department also spoke on the occasion and released BBBP Mizoram Theme Song. This theme song was composed by LR Ruata and titled "Pen zel rawh”. Smt. Zoramthangi Chhangte, Director, WCD gave a special address in the 10 years of BBBP, highlighting the various activities undertaken for the scheme.

The celebration of 10 Years of BBBP will continue at district and block level till 8th March, 2025 during which intese awareness efforts will be undertaken in various forms.
