The Vice Chairman, High Powered Committee (HPC) Lunglei Shri Lawmawma Tochhawng, MLA yesterday inaugurated a 5 Days ‘Orientation Course on Relapse Prevention and Management’ at Chhawmdawlna In, Melte, a De-addiction Centre on the outskirts of Lunglei Town in Southern Mizoram. Organized by the Mizoram Social Welfare Department, the training is being attended by over 30 staff members of various drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centres across the state.

Speaking at the inaugural function, the MLA thanked the Social Welfare Department and Mizoram Social Defence & Rehabilitation Board (MSD&RB) for their untiring campaign against the menace of drug addiction amongst the youth in Mizoram. Lauding the de-addiction centre staff as ‘Unsung Heroes’, he praised them for their noble choice of career, and encouraged them to continue their mission with great sensitivity, determination and grit. He also expressed hope that the 5 days intensive training would reap positive outcomes for the participants, as well as inmates of various drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centres across the state. Reasserting the Government’s determination to tackle the issue of drug addiction in the State, he stated that a detailed roadmap has been prepared to build new de-addiction centres, while strengthening the existing ones. He also thanked members of civil society, various Churches and NGO’s of Mizoram for their enormous contribution in the war against drugs in Mizoram.

The inaugural program ended with a vote of thanks by Mrs. F. Lalngaihawmi, DSWO Lunglei.

The ‘Orientation Course on Relapse Prevention and Management For Functionaries of IRCAs’ is scheduled to be held between 3rd to 7th September. Resource persons are Dr RL Sanghluna, Pi  Camelia Lalhruaitluangi, Pu David J. Lalfakzuala, Pi Lalthanmawii Vanphong and Pi Lalnunzami Chawngthu, all noted activists and experts in the field.
