Along with the rest of the country, a month-long celebration for National Nutrition Month ‘Rashtriya Poshan Maah’ under the Flagship Programme, ‘Poshan Abhiyan’ began in Lunglei District with a launching program on 2nd September at the office chamber of the Deputy Commissioner Smt K. Lalrinzuali.

The National Nutrition Month kick-started with an oath taking of ‘Poshan Oath’ by all the members present, after which the District Convergence Action Plan Committee was held to finalize the list of events and programmes for the entire month. An Activity Calendar Template was circulated and deliberated upon by the Committee, which consisted of officials of Women & Child Development, Social Welfare, H&FW, Rural Development, Agriculture, Food & Civil Supplies, PHE and UD&PA Departments. The Deputy Commissioner urged the line departments to work in proper co-ordination to jointly realize the objectives of improving the nutritional status of children, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers in Lunglei District. Congratulating the Social Welfare Department for winning “Overall Excellence in Implementation” leh “ICDS-CAS Implementation” from Union Minister for Women & Child Development Smriti Zubin Irani on August 23,2019, the Deputy Commissioner stated that winning two National Level Awards  was a matter of great pride for the state as a whole.

The entire month of September will be celebrated as the Rashtriya Poshan Maah across the country under the Flagship Programme, ‘Poshan Abhiyaan’ – Prime Minister’s Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nourishment, a multi- ministerial convergence mission with the vision to address malnutrition with a targeted approach by 2022.
