In its afternoon sitting yesterday (21.10.2009) the Mizoram Legislative Assembly unanimously passed Demands for Grants under the portfolios of 3 Ministers. Demands submitted S. Hiato are Water Supply & Sanination – Rs. 108,81,32,000/-; Industries – Rs. 27,72,45,000/- and Tourism – Rs. 5,31,10,000/- amounting Rs. 141,84,87,000/-. P.C. Zoram Sangliana submitted his demands Printing & Stationery – Rs. 9,16,00,000/-; Art & Culture – Rs. 7,08,55,000/- and Transport – Rs. 25,21,85,000/- totaling Rs. 41,46,40,000/-. Demands for Grants submitted by P.C. Lalthanliana includes Local Administration – Rs. 24,84,65,000/-; Social Welfare – Rs. 60,23,47,000/-  amounting Rs. 85,08,12,000/-.

    Almost all the 14 members participated in the discussion requested the PHE Minister to pay special attention to water supply in the towns and villages within their respective constituencies. Many members also asked the Transport Minister to arrange State Transport service to the villages in their constituencies in the coming Christmas time and to ask the drivers to be cautious to avoid accident. K. Lianzuala (Congress) requested an industrial centre be considered within his constituency which he stated a great potentiality lies in Baktawng Village. Col. Z.S. Zuala (Congress) wanted to know where Inland Water Transport is implemented in the state. Lalrobiaka (Congress) of Dampa Constituency stated that his constituency has great feasibility in Wood Based Industry and requested the Minister concerned to consider the potentiality. Opposition member C. Ramhluna asked whether the Government is thinking of industrial holiday due to the fact that the budget estimate for Industries Department decrease than that of last year. Opposition Group Leader Dr. R. Lalthangliana suggested that Tourism Department may arrange some kind of wayside facilities along Aizawl – Thenzawl – Lunglei road. He also demanded renovation works should soon be executed in Lunglei Water Reservoir.

    In their winding up speech the Ministers explained and clarified various points raised by the members. They also complemented members for their contributions and keen for improving their departments functionaries. P.C. Zoram Sangliana stated that Art & Culture Department is closely associated with many Non Governmental Organisations. He said that desire to preserve cultural heritages within the state increase these days for which the department will take initiative. Transport Department has to be re-structured, the Minister pointed out.

    Social Welfare Minister P.C. Lalthanliana in his winding up remarks informed the members that People with Disability Act is being implemented in Mizoram but due to paucity of fund required posts could not be filled up which to some extend caused problems in the department.
