The Agriculture Minister of Mizoram Pu C. Lalrinsanga yesterday (23/10/2019) inaugurated the newly  constructed Female Ward at Bethel Centre, a privately run orphanage on the outskirts of Lunglei Town.

In attendance were Lunglei Additional DC Pu David Liansanglura Pachuau, DAO Pu Tlangtimawia Zote, other officials, NGOS, Church  leaders etc.

Speaking at the inauguration, Pu C. Lalrinsanga congratulated the  Bethel Centre on their infrastructure expansion, and expressed hope that the institution would continue to flourish in the years to come.  He took the opportunity to thank the Bethel Centre team headed by Pu K. Laltawnga, Superintendent for taking in orphans, and taking care of them like they would their own children. He also appealed to Government Departments, NGOS and the public to continue contributing towards the development of the orphanage in any way they can.  Addressing the orphans, he encouraged them to study hard, maintain a positive mindset and repose their faith in God.

Bethel Centre, located on the outskirts of Lunglei Town was founded on  12/02/2003, and initially had drug addicts and orphans as inmates.  However, as the Centre started getting sponsorship from The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Mizoram State Child  Protection Society Gov’t of Mizoram from 2013, it started functioning
exclusively as an orphanage.  At present, a total of 85 orphans in the 1-18 age group – 44 males and 41 females are residing in the Centre. Since its inception, The Centre has given shelter to a total 781 orphans (male – 538 and female - 243). The Centre takes great pride in the fact that many of their former children are now thriving in the
outside world, having taken up a variety of professions after completing their studies.
