Agriculture Minister Shri C.Lalrinsanga inaugurated Green-Ag: Transforming Indian Agriculture for global environmental benefits and the conservation of critical bio-diversity and forest landscapes at SAMETI Conference Hall, Aizawl today.

 

In his speech, he said it is mandatory to remind ourselves time and again the importance of sustainable use of our environment and our natural resources. He said as we strive for the fulfilment of our economic needs, we must not forget to maintain the optimum equilibrium between ecosystem and economic development.  He also said that Green Ag Project will catalyse transformative change of the agricultural sector whereby providing economic upliftment to the people of the focus area with awareness on conservation of IUCN Endangered Species and critically vulnerable flora and fauna.

 

Department of Agriculture (Crop Husbandry) will be the State Nodal Agency, and the  two focus areas of this project includes Dampa Tiger Reserve and  Thorang Wildlife Sanctuary accommodating more than 30 villages, which are highly dependent on forest produce with the number of dwellers increasing every year.
