Aizawl the 2nd May, 2024: In a tireless and persistent pursuance to detect theft and burglary cases committed by unknown miscreant(s), Aizawl PS detected four (4) cases of theft and burglary cases registered under Aizawl PS by arresting and sustained interrogation of the accused.
Total recoveries in four (4) cases are:
(i) Mobile Phone (Oppo) v/o Rs. 12,000/-
(ii) Purse containing Aadhaar Card, Voter's ID and ATM Card
(iii) Cash Rs. 250/-
1. AZL-PS C/No.144/24 Dt.25.4.24 u/s 454/380 IPC arising burglary into the house of David Lalthanmawia of Upper Republic, Aizawl on the morning of 22.04.2024 wherein unknown miscreant(s) stole his mobile phone Redmi 9 (Black colour) worth Rs.9.500/-. Though this case was a clueless case with no CCTV coverage in and around the PO, the police team with a great zeal developing criminal intelligence arrested one Lalrinzuala (26) s/o C.Lallawmkima of Venghlui, Aizawl on 26.04.2024 on the ground of suspicion and when subjected to sustained interrogation while he was remanded into Police custody for 72 hrs., he admitted to have committed burglary and stated that he entered the house in the morning through an unlatched main door and stole the said mobile phone and sold the stolen mobile phone on that very morning to one random non-indigenous person on the road side at Treasury Square at the cost of Rs. 1500/-.It is further ascertained that the arrested accused Lalrinzuala (26) s/o C. Lallawmkima of Venghlui Aizawl had involved in the below noted cases:
i) AZL PS C/No. 305/2021 Dt. 07.06.2021 u/s 380 IPC
ii) AZL PS C/No. 307/2021 Dt. 10.06.2021 u/s 380 IPC
iii) AZL PS C/No. 308/2021 Dt. 11.06.2021 u/s 380 IPC
iv) AZL-PS C/No. 652/21 dt. 26.12.2021 u/s 380 IPC
v) AZL-PS C/No. 709/23 Dt.21.10.23 u/s 457/380 IPC
2. AZL-PS C/No. 138/24 Dt.22.04.2024 u/s 380 IPC arising out of theft case wherein unknown miscreant(s) had stolen Mobile phone Oppo worth Rs. 12,000/-. Cigarette (1 carton) worth Rs.420/- from one petty shop at Chanmari, Aizawl. During investigation, after analyses of CCTV and subsequent developing of criminal intelligence, one Lalnunmawia (28) s/o Lalnghakliana of Tuikual North, Aizawl was arrested on the ground of suspicion on 26.04.2024 and when subjected to sustained interrogation while he was remanded into Police custody for 96 hrs., he admitted to have committed theft and stated that in the evening of 22.04.2024 at around 3:00 PM, he entered the said shop as a customer and as he saw the shop keeper taking a nap inside the shop, he astutely got away with a mobile phone and a carton of Cigarette. While the cigarettes were disposed of by the arrested accused, the stolen mobile phone and cash Rs.250/- which he hid inside a side drain on the roadside of Chanmari, Aizawl was recovered.
It is further ascertained that the arrested accused Lalnunmawia (28) s/o Lalnghakliana of Tuikual North, Aizawl also involved in AZL-PS C/No.25/24 Dt.02.02.2024 u/s 379 IPC
3. AZL-PS C/No. 141/24 Dt.25.04.2024 u/s 379 IPC arising out of theft of purse (brown colour) containing Cash Rs.7,000/- and documents like Aadhaar, Voter's ID and ATM card from the immediate possession of Pi C. Laltlankimi while she was shopping at Bara Bazar, Dawrpui on the evening of 25.04.2024, developing criminal intelligence after analyzing CCTV footage, one Lallawmkima (27) s/o Vanlalrema of Lungmuat, Kolasib Dist. P/A Ramhlun North, Aizawl was arrested by police personnel on the ground of suspicion from Bawngkawn on the evening of 30.04.2024 and when he was subjected to sustained interrogation, he admitted to have committed the crime. While all the stolen money was spent by the accused for purchasing drugs, he dumped the stolen purse containing documents in the shrubs on Bawngkawn Durtlang road. Hence,recovery of the stolen purse containing all the documents reported missing was made from the shrubs on the roadside of Bawngkawn Durtlang road just before reaching Durtlang Leitan. The arrested accused is being remanded into Police custody to ascertain his involvement in other cases of theft and burglary. The accused seems to be a first time offender.
4. AZL-PS C/No. 116 24 Dt.09.04.2024 u s 379 IPC arising out of theft wherein unknown miscreant stole a bag containing Grocery items like Lion energy drinks (4 cases) worth Rs.3,800/-. Shark energy drinks (3 cases) worth Rs.3,600/-, Surgical Mask worth Rs.5,000/-, Sausage (3 packets) worth Rs.2,250/-, Lighters (4 boxes) worth Rs. 1,600/- and different grocery items total worth Rs.41,250/-which were kept for sale on the road side of Dawrpui bazar area on the morning of 09.04.2024. Developing criminal intelligence, one Vanlalhriatpuia (37) s/o Lalsangzuala Ngente of Tuikual North, Aizawl was arrested by police personnel on 30.04.2024 on the ground of suspicion and when he was subjected to sustained interrogation the subject admitted of committing the crime. According to the accused he sold all the stolen merchandise to one random sumo driver at Chanmari. Efforts are on to locate the receiver of the stolen property and the arrested accused is being remanded into Police custody.
It is further ascertained that the arrested accused Vanlalhriatpuia (37) s /o Lalsangzuala Ngente of Tuikual North. Aizawl had involved in the below noted cases:
i) AZL-PS C /No.76/19 Dt.14.3.19 u /s 380 IPC
ii) AZL-PS C /No.767/23 Dt. 11.12.23 u/s 454/380 IPC
In public interest, Aizawl DEF would like to appeal to general public that to avoid burglary and theft, one should avoid:-
1. Not keep the keys of home/shop below doormat or near the home.
2. Not keep door unlocked when leaving home.
3. Keep precious properties in bank lockers.
4. Keep photos of precious property like gold; jewels etc. so that they can be compared with recovered stolen items.
5. Keep bills of costly electronics like mobile, fridge, TV etc. so that they can be traced in case of theft.
6. Install CCTV cameras at home/shop.
7. Keep windows locked before leaving home.
8. As far as possible keep someone at home to guard the belongings when leaving home.
9. Neighbours should be responsive to any sound disturbance when neighbours are not at home.
