ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife) School, Lawngtlai conducted its first ever Capping and Lamp Lighting Ceremony for 3rd batch students at the School Auditorium yesterday.
Speaking as the chief guest of the function, Lawngtlai Chief Medical Officer Dr Lalthlamuana lauded the Principal, staff and students of the school for having good results and remarkable achievements within a short span of three years only since its inception. He advised the newly capped students to try to be a blessing and a guiding star for others in their life.
Nursing Superintendent of District Hospital Lawngtlai Pi Lalrintluangi capped 19 first year students of 3rd batch, and the newly capped students lighted their lamp and took an oath of nurse. Pi Lalrintluangi explained that the cap denotes responsibility and its white colour denotes sanctity, while lamp lighting is a tribute to Florence Nightingale - the lady with the lamp and it symbolises giving light to the world.
An opening song was performed by ANM Female Voice after which Ward Superintendent of Christian Hospital Lawngtlai Pi Lalhlimpuii Hrahsel delivered an invocation. School Principal Pi C. Rothangpuii gave a brief report of the school. 4 students of the 1st batch who appeared in top ten in Mizoram in the 2nd year examination and 7 students of the 2nd batch who appeared in top ten in Mizoram in the 1st year examination were felicitated. School tutor Ms PC Lalhmangaihi proposed a vote of thanks. Presbyterian pastor Rev. R. Lalfakawma dedicated the students in prayer and ended the ceremony with a benediction.
ANM School Lawngtlai was started in October 2017 with 20 students and the 1st batch have passed out. Initially, it was under CMO Lawngtlai, but the Principal was conferred a power of Drawing & Disbursing Officer (DDO) in October 2019. Presently, there are one principal, four tutors, eight non-teaching staff and 39 students. ANM is a two-year course and can be applied after passing XIIth. The session is October to September.
The ceremony was attended by staff and students of ANM School Lawngtlai, parents, health department officials, government officers and representatives of NGOs.
