Celebration of National Girl Child Day-2020 took place today at DC’s Conference Hall, Champhai.   Deputy Commissioner of Champhai, Pu SL Naveen, IAS joined the celebration among others.    

Adressing the gathering, Pu Mark Lalthanliana, Addl DC mentioned  the initiatives taken up by central government to uplift the status of girl child. Highlighting the flagship campaign to eradicate the gender inequalities to girl child- Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP), he urged the citizen to take pledge and   safeguard the well-being of girl child. 

Pu Lalnunfela Chawngthu, SDO Sadar administered the pledge taking ceremony on the occation. Initiated by the Ministry of Women and Child Development in 2008, National Girl Child Day is celebrated in India every year on January 24. The objectives behind celebrating the National Girl Child Day is spread awareness among people about all the inequalities faced by girls in the country, to promote awareness about the rights of a girl child and to increase awareness on the importance of girl’s education, health, nutrition, legal rights and protection.
