Aizawl the 16th October,2021: As part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) Programme marking 75 years of India's independence, Bharatnet broadband connectivity at Sesawng village, Thingsulthliah block, Aizawl, was inaugurated today by the Village Council President, Pu C. Lalremruata. The inauguration was organised by Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL), Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India. The inaugural video call was made by Pu K Srikrishna, DDG, Mizoram to Senior Deputy Director General, North East LSA, DoT Pu Ajay Kumar Sahu and to Col. P S Basu, State Head, BBNL. Pu Ajay Kumar Sahu, Sr.DDG, North East LSA (through video call), Pu K.Srikrishna, DDG, DOT, Mizoram, Pu C. Lalhmachuana, Director, DoT, Mizoram and Pu Rameshwara Prasad, Consultant, BBNL were also present during the inauguration.

The broadband connectivity at this village has been provided under Bharat Net phase-II project of Department of Telecommunications, Government of India. It is envisaged under Bharatnet project to extend broadband connectivity to all Gram Panchayats in the country.

'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' (AKAM) is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive India and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievement. In Mizoram, it is planned to extend broadband connectivity to 762 village councils under this project. In about 241 village councils, the equipments are installed and either ready for commissioning or commissioned. The 10 Mbps broadband connectivity at Sesawng village is provided under Phase-II and it is connected through satellite technology. The broadband connectivity is installed in Sesawng-I village council office. The villagers can access internet through wifi and utilise this connectivity for availing various online services like ticket booking, e-commerce, online classes, online ration, e-Governance services etc. 

In today's inaugural function, Pu Ajay Kumar Sahu, Sr.DDG, North East LSA (through video call) congratulated all the villagers for getting the broadband connectivity. The Village Council President stressed the importance of internet connectivity to avail online services including online classes. It will help the students from economically backward families to attend online classes and to avail different online services, he said. He also thanked the DOT and BBNL authorities for extending broadband connectivity to Sesawng village. 

On this occasion, Pu K.Srikrishna, DDG, DOT also requested all villagers to utilise the broadband connectivity to the fullest extent possible. On his part, Pu C. Lalhmachhuna, Director, DoT, Mizoram explained about both the phases of Bharat net project in Mizoram through which it is proposed to extend broadband connectivity to 762 village councils. He also explained about the 214 mobile towers commissioned in Mizoram under Comprehensive Telecom Development Project (CTDP) to extend mobile coverage to uncovered villages.
