100/2026-2027
Dated Hnahthial, the 22nd May, 2026: Briefing regarding Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Electoral Roll was held at Hnahthial DC Meeting Hall No. II under the chairmanship of the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) Pu Zothanmawia Khiangte. The programme was attended by representatives of various NGOs - YMA, MHIP and MUP; members of the MJA as well as block political party leaders.
Addressing the gathering, the ERO stated that the SIR exercise is a significant initiative aimed at ensuring a clean, accurate and error-free Electoral Roll (e-roll). He therefore appealed to all stakeholders present to extend their full cooperation towards the successful implementation of the revision process.
He informed the meeting that the existing electoral roll would not be valid for the SIR, adding that the last Intensive Roll Revision of this nature was carried out during 2002–2004.
The ERO further explained that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) would distribute Enumeration Forms to every household and subsequently collect the completed forms from which a draft electoral roll would be prepared.
He also stated that the ongoing mapping process had revealed that nearly 15% of individuals were not reflected in the existing electoral roll. Hearings would therefore be conducted for such cases, as well as for persons whose names might not appear in the draft roll due to non-submission of Enumeration Forms or any other reasons.
Describing the participants as responsible and influential members of society who possess close knowledge of the people within their respective localities, the ERO emphasized their crucial role in ensuring a transparent and accurate electoral roll.
He stressed that no individual should be included in the electoral roll merely on the basis of personal acquaintance or sympathy. He urged all concerned not to support or protect the inclusion of persons who are not legally eligible to be enrolled in the electoral roll. He further appealed them to not hesitate in reporting names that may have previously appeared in the electoral roll but are liable for deletion.
Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO), Pu Lawrence Lalhlanthara, also briefed the participants on matters relating to the Enumeration Forms. He informed the meeting that if residents were unavailable even after three visits by BLOs for collection of the forms, their names will not be included in the draft electoral roll. In this regard, he appealed to all those present to create public awareness on the importance of the SIR process and encourage timely submission of the Enumeration Forms.
