Following the announcement of bye-election date for Chalfilh Assembly Constituency in Mizoram by the Election Commission of India, the State Chief Electoral Officer K Riachho IAS held a press conference this afternoon at Aizawl Press Club.

Addressing members of the press, the CEO stated that notification to this effect will be issued by the Governor of Mizoram on 30th of January. Last date of nomination will be 6th of February, nomination papers of the candidates will be scrutinized on 7th February, last date of withdrawal of nomination will be 9th February and date of polling will be 23rd February. Model Code of Conduct, effective since the announcement of bye-election by the ECI on 11th January, shall be operational within the whole of Aizawl District till March 3rd. He further stated that there are 29 polling stations in the Chalfilh constituency with 17,237 voters, 8869 male and 8368 female voters.

Replying to questions raised by members of the press, Mr Riachho said that sensitive and hypersensitive stations will later be assessed in view of the various situations arising thereof. The CEO sought the support and co-operation of the media, political parties, non-governmental organisations and the general public so that free and fair election may be conducted.
