The third day of the 7th round of Regional Training Camp on National Sample Survey organized by the Economics and Statistics Department was held at I&PR Conference Hall on the 9th of January 2013. Mr. M. M. Singh, Regional Director, North East Region has been appointed by the Central Government as Observer. Practical training sessions will be held tomorrow at Lengte village and its surrounding areas.

Since 1950, the National Survey under the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation has conducted an assortment of national researches using scientific sampling methods on various subjects. In Mizoram, the NSS was started in 1975-76 along with the 32nd survey at the national level. The 70th rounds of survey will be held within the month of January to December, within the calendar year.

The 70th round will focus on:-

 

  1. Land and livestock in rural areas.
  2. Department & Investment (Rural & Urban)
  3. Jhum Cultivation (Rural)

The aim of the current survey is to construct a dependable Socio-Economic data to assess the conditions of farmers and Agriculture and its Allied Sectors and will be useful for the AH&Vety, Cooperation, Agriculture, Fisheries and Land Revenue & Settlement Deptts. as well as National Accounts Division.

The NSS Data has been utilized by various departments including the Planning Commission, for making their plans and policy framework.

The current RTC is being attended by the Officers and Inspectors of Statistics from the Economics & Statistics Department, number around 40.
